On Saturday, June 30, welcome Canada Day celebrating the old fashioned way by dancing away the evening to the toe-tapping tunes of the “Ever Hopeful String Band” at the Middleville Agricultural Society’s Historic Barn. The Band’s experienced musicians from varying traditional music backgrounds provide an exciting combination of Irish and Québecois style music.

Can’t dance? No worry, all dances are taught on the floor by a caller – simple circles and squares, contra and country, as well as jigs and reels for dancing or simply listening.

The Mississippi Madawaska Land Trust (MMLT) is a local charity that works with landowners who love their land and wish to conserve it for future generations.  One of MMLT’s seven protected properties is the High Lonesome Nature Reserve which has a lovely heritage barn with a leaky roof. So what could be more fitting than to raise the roof at Middleville’s Agricultural barn with a good ole fashioned community-style barn dance and at the same time help raise funds to repair another barn roof.  MMLT board member Mary Vandenhoff explains, “The High Lonesome barn is large with many unique features, but it needs considerable work to return it to its original glory. Most pressing is the $2,500 needed to repair the roof this summer.  Next year we will turn our attention to shoring up a badly sagging corner.

Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Middleville Agricultural Hall, 4189 Wolf Grove Rd.  The band starts playing at 7 p.m.  There will be pub food available for purchase and a cash bar with beer, wine and soft drinks.

Tickets are $20 and are on sale through PayPal by using the Ticket Order Form below.  They are also available at Shadowfax in Perth and at Gillagallou Bird Store in Almonte.
