Register Now:Â Geology Tour RegistrationÂ
The tour will be led by MMLT President, Bob Betcher (hydrogeologist). It will start on Black Creek Road at 10 a.m. and end at the top of Blueberry Mountain at about 2 p.m. There will be a stop along the trail for lunch, so be sure to bring something with you.
Participants will be introduced to the bedrock geology of cliffLAND and vicinity. Bedrock in this area is part of what is known as the Grenville Province which was formed during a mountain building event dating to between about 1-1.3 billion years ago. You’ll start with two stops along Black Creek Road where the concepts of plate tectonics will be introduced and we will view several rock exposures, including a major fault or discontinuity which separates two distinct geological regions. We will then proceed to cliffLAND and will walk the trail to the top of Blueberry Mountain, looking at rock exposures along the way.
There is no need for a background in geology to enjoy this learning experience!
Register early to ensure you get a place. Additional details will follow nearer to the time of the tour.
